Wheeler, former pipe fitter, featured in national magazine

James Wheeler

James Wheeler, who laid pipe for the Alaska Pipeline, has been featured in a national magazine.

Wheeler is currently a resident at Life Care Center of Ocala, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center run by Life Care Centers of America. The company manages more than 200 centers around the country and publishes a handful of residents’ life stories each year in its LEADER magazine.

Life Care Center of Ocala helps Mulkey get home after bypass surgery

After having triple-bypass surgery, Carol Mulkey was weak and having difficulty getting around.

Mulkey came to Life Care Center of Ocala, Florida, on July 28, 2016, for cardiac rehabilitation. When she arrived, she needed some help with her mobility and more extensive assistance with completing daily self-care tasks like getting dressed and bathing. She was also on oxygen.

Clara Walsh turns 105 at Life Care Center of Ocala

On July 23, Life Care Center of Ocala, Florida, celebrated resident Clara Walsh’s 105th birthday.

Walsh was surrounded by friends and family members who were delighted to celebrate such a big milestone in her life. This birthday, Walsh shared, was “great” and it encompassed some of her favorites, including a lemon cake, a theme of yellow and blue and even a crown for the birthday queen.

When Lorna Drewry attended a bereavement counseling session in 2000 after the passing of her husband, she couldn’t have guessed what the future held for her.

It was at that session that she met Ken Boardman, who was also grieving the passing of his spouse. The two struck up a friendship and grew closer as the years passed, until they realized that something more than friendship was growing.

Ocala resident wins Christmas card design contest

Virginia Sonier, a resident at Life Care Center of Ocala, Florida, is proud that her artwork traveled around the country this holiday season on the front of hundreds of Christmas cards.

Each year, Life Care Centers of America invites residents in its more than 220 facilities to submit Christmas card designs, and one design is chosen for each of the organization’s geographical divisions.
