Virginia Sonier, a resident at Life Care Center of Ocala, Florida, is proud that her artwork traveled around the country this holiday season on the front of hundreds of Christmas cards.
Each year, parent company Life Care Centers of America invites residents in its more than 220 facilities to submit Christmas card designs, and one design is chosen for each of the organization’s geographical divisions. A total of seven card designs are printed and distributed to facilities and regional offices throughout the company.
Sonier’s colored pencil drawing of Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus was chosen as the winner for Life Care’s skilled nursing and rehab facilities in Florida and Texas.
“I had no idea I would win,” said Sonier. “I was inspired by a picture of the same scene. That was my interpretation.”
The facility holds a weekly Art with a Heart class for residents, led by an art instructor. The instructor showed her the nativity scene that inspired her card.
